By car: Mirefoot is just under 20 minutes from the M6 motorway. From J36 on the M6 head west on the A591 signposted Kendal and Windermere. Continue on this dual carriageway for x miles until you come to a roundabout (known locally as Plumgarth’s roundabout). Take the second exit to continue on the A 591 signposted Windermere. Very shortly after leaving the roundabout take the first right hand turn into Hollins Lane signposted Burneside. Continue on this road over the level crossing to the T junction in Burneside. Turn left onto the A and continue on this road for half a mile into Bowston. Upon entering Bowston take the first right down a slight hill and across the bridge of the river Kent. Continue on this lane for half a mile ignoring the first rig ht hand turn on a sharp bend. As the road enters a wood there is another right hand turn which is signposted Mirefoot. Take this turn onto Potter Fell road. The entrance track for Mirefoot is 200m up on the left hand side.
By train: The closest mainline station is Oxenholme which has connections to Glasgow in 1 hour 52 minutes Manchester in 1 hour 50 minutes and London in 2 hours 40 minutes. Local trains connect Oxenholme to Burneside where pick ups could be arranged. Hire cars are available and can be collected at the train stations.
By air: the nearest airport is Manchester which is 1. 5 hours drive or Liverpool which is 1.45. There is a good train service from Manchester airport to Oxenholme. Helicopter transfer from Manchester can be arranged.
